‘Marilyn Monroe ‘Swept Here’

‘Marilyn Monroe ‘Swept Here’

Once you get “converted,” it’s hard to go back… Having lived in a converted carriage house, I can tell you that the charms and quirks of a converted space are incomparable. Nobody will ever confuse your home for another! This house, which has been featured in countless guides to the Hamptons, television and film spots, was part of a larger estate which has largely been preserved as Quail Hill Farm, an organic communal garden farm (read fancy farm and think about Martha Stewart and Gwyneth Paltrow showing up early to beat out others for the best harvest).

This iconic windmill house, oft called Windswept, was built in the 1800s and still maintains its charm. It has been newly renovated with modern amenities, including an updated kitchen and bath. Perfect place for getting started on your next novel or play, or cataloguing your opus of photographic or artistic works, like one former tenant, artist Amelina Seikluska.

Summer residence to luminaries like Kurt Vonnegut, Arthur Miller and Marilyn Monroe, the house offers 1300 square feet of living space on three floors with two bedrooms, one bath, and a kitchen – plus a loft in the upper area of the windmill – and is surrounded by 5.45 acres of beautiful property. It was also occupied by expert interior decorator and Instagram star Tom Samet of Hamptons House Design who naturally put his own stylish flair and finishes on the house, seen here as it was when featured in HC&G in 2010.

So this octagonal room definitely needs your summery touches… a few vases filled with fresh hydrangea clippings and some Wölffer Rosé chilling, plus a few cute kids in gingham… If you want to live out your own artistic fantasy here, you’re in luck! Follow in the steps of Kurt, Marilyn and Arthur, Amelina, or Tom. . . and write your own chapter here. The house is available for summer or year-round rental. Click here to see the listing details.
